Leather gloves provide "very good" coverage for almost all mechanical risks. Combined with thermal materials they respond well to heat or cold. They do not protect against moisture or liquids.
We have extraordinarily good gloves for welding, smelting, iron-metal activities, etc. where synthetic gloves still have a long way to go. We also have gloves that are designed and made in leather + aramid with protection on the areas of the hand that suffer most injury or accidents.
